The Sabiha Gökçen Airport has implemented as the first stage of 6 main elements of the technopolis which is to be developed as a “Centre of Excellence” within the framework of the “Advanced Technology Industrial Park and Airport Project” (ITEP) prepared by the SSM.
In 1987, the “Advanced Technology Industrial Park and Airport Project” (ITEP) was established in Kurtköy, Pendik, with the decision of the SSIK. With an annual capacity of 90,000 tons of cargo, 3 million international and 500,000 domestic passengers, Sabiha Gökçen Airport was established on the Anatolian side of Istanbul as the first stage of the ITEP Project. With all proceeds used in projects in the development of the technological infrastructure of our country’s defense industry and for the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, the Sabiha Gökçen Airport is operated by the Airport Management and Aeronautical Industries Inc. (HEAŞ) within the framework of the provisions of the Turkish Commercial Code with 96.4% of the shares owned by the SSM.
