Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN was born in Istanbul in 1973. He completed his undergraduate and graduate education in Electrical Engineering Department of Yıldız Technical University and his Ph.D. in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA in 2003. After his Ph.D. graduation, he has engaged in scientific studies at the University of Connecticut in 2004-2005. He became an associate professor in 2008 and became a professor in 2013 at Yıldız Technical University, where he served from 2005- 2008 as an assistant professor.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN, who is the founder department chairman of Yıldız Technical University, Control and Automation Engineering Department, has served as the chairman of Control and Automation Engineering Department in between the years 2009-2013. During his chairmanship, he has been the founder of many postgraduate programs.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN served as the Delegate of Türkiye to the European Union 7th Framework Program Energy Area between 2007-2010. Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) ICHET program, Yıldız Technical University Technopark, BAP Coordinator, Science Application and Research Center. Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN served as the Editor of YTÜ Sigma Journal of Engineering and Science between 2010-2013. He served as Deputy Director of the Institute of Science, Director of the Institute of Science and Vice Rector of Yıldız Technical University.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN was elected as the Associate Member of Türkiye Academy of Sciences in 2013. Between November 2014 and April 2018, he was the Rector at Gebze Technical University. He has numerous national and international articles / reports, editorial editions and projects. During his rectorate, he received many awards in organizations organized by different organizations due to his pioneering contributions to university-industry cooperation.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN, who has served in many commissions and boards at The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and  Council of Higher Education (YÖK), has also served as the chairman of the Turkish Defense Industry Council under the roof of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB). Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN, who is also a member of the Board of Trustees of many foundations and institutions such as Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation, which he made significant contributions to the establishment of Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation, Türkiye Basic Sciences Research Foundation, Yıldız Technical University Foundation and OSTİM Technical University, was appointed as a Member of YÖK on August 1, 2023 by the Presidential Decree.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN was elected as a member of the ASELSAN Board of Directors for the first time on March 15, 2017 with the decision of the General Assembly. One year later, he was re-elected as a member of the Board of Directors at the ASELSAN General Assembly Meeting and was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Between May 2018 and June 2023, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of ASELSAN.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN, who was appointed as the President of Defense Industries by the Presidential Decree No. 3 published in the Official Gazette dated June 6, 2023 with the approval of our President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, is a Member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation.

Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN is married with two children.
