The establishment of Teknopark Istanbul is based on the Defence Industry Executive Committee (SSIK) decision, dated October 8th, 1987.
The Advanced Technology Industrial Park and Airport Project (ITEP) is a project carried out by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries on the Anatolian region of Istanbul and includes industrial support, research and development, science and technology, education and training dimensions. The main goal of the project is to support the creation of the necessary dynamic, scientific and technological infrastructure to meet the advanced technology needs of our country from national sources. With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated April 20, 1988, a land area of 13 million m2 was expropriated in Kurtköy, Pendik for use in line with ITEP purposes. Approximately 2.5 million square meters of land in this area has been reserved for Teknopark Istanbul. With the letter of intent signed on 12 February 2009 between the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and the Istanbul Commerce University (İTÜCÜ), which will take part in the founding delegation, the founding process of Teknopark Istanbul as an important unit of ITEP, was accelerated. Subsequently, the Airport Operation and Aviation Industries Inc. (HEAŞ) and Defense Technology Engineering and Trade Inc. (STM) become part of the founding delegation. Teknopark Istanbul obtained the Istanbul Technology Development Zone (TGB) status according to Law No. 4691 on the Technology Development Regions with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated October 3, 2009. The partnership agreement was signed on March 12, 2010 with the aim of establishing Teknopark Istanbul Management Company with 45% of the shares owned by the SSM. The Teknopark Istanbul Management Company Inc. was established as of May 4, 2010 and has been operating and continues to work with the aim of creating an ecosystem in which services and R&D activities are supported by innovation and technological production and which also directly triggers entrepreneurship and the economy.
